SONYA Jezebel COTE
You may have seen her as the opening act for the Speigel Tent 'n Tavern, brought to you by Harbourfront and Luminato. Or you caught her troupe - Tiger Lily's Erotic Cabaret - at the Laurentian Room between 2004 to 2007. Maybe you've heard her on JAZZ FM 91 or CBC French and English? Perhaps you saw her heart-wrenching monologue and song at the World AIDS Conference in Toronto? What some have said when asked "Who is Sonya 'Jezebel' Côté?"... According to legend, Sonya 'Jezebel' Côté was found behind a fish stall in the Rue Pigalle, where her musical squalling was so lovely to hear that she was immediately whisked away by the First bassoon of the Paris symphony and raised on a steady diet of Opera and Chanson. To the puzzlement of everyone around her, however, she found that she could not sing without tearing off her clothing. Her audition for the Paris Opera did not go as planned (though she received numerous offers of marriage). Realizing a high-toned singing career was not in the cards, she was soon aboard a steamer to New York. Her opening night to a rafter-packed crowd of gentlemen at the Slipper Room caused famed insole tycoon Herbert Cranston to inhale his fully lit cigar, and a burlesque star was born. Sonya’s insatiable craving for novelty, adventure and burlesque perfection has led her around the globe where she regularly charms and then stomps on the defenseless and grateful hearts of men and women alike in her six inch stiletto heels. THE VANISHERS ~ Rockabilly/ Country/ Punk
Throat punching country rock." That's how The Vanishers, a Burlington based rockabilly 5-piece, describe their infectious brand of toe-tapping rock and roll. Paul Pengelly(vocals), Gary Kuiper(guitar/vocals), Paul McGrath(guitar/vocals), Darrel Lascelles(bass) and Brian Kuiper(drums) make up this full sounding rock and roll train ride. The boys are currently pushing their debut release, "The Biggest Hand". Recorded in early 2009 and released in the summer, the album blasts out 12 powerful tracks mixing country, rock and rockabilly into a melodic, danceable hoe-down. From the first track, "4 AM", you will find yourself unable to keep your feet still. "Ontario's next big thing" state John & Amber of Shakin Katz Radio out of London, Ontario. The band believes this to be true. The album has been tracking across the country on college stations, getting rotation in cities like Lethbridge, Sudbury, London, Toronto, Hamilton and Windsor to name a few. Stocked with their own graphic design and video crews, they have been pushing their stellar merchandise line at shows as well as promoting their videos online. Be sure to visit their myspace page to watch the videos for "4 AM" and "Kiss" as well as the V-Tel ad for "The Biggest Hand". Trucking forward into the country/rock scene is in the forefront of the band's plans. Having hooked up recently with a publicist, they are looking to get their name, and more importantly, their music, out to as many people as possible. Stay tuned for more recordings to pop up on their myspace page and keep an eye out for the guys pumping their brand of raucous fun into your neighbourhood soon.

THIS AIN'T HOLLYWOOD - Live music Venue, Hamilton ON
THE BARETTAS ~ Three 22 year old girls that tear up the stage!
If the relentless pounding of Michigan’s metal stamping plants somehow contributed to the Stooges’ driving rhythms, then the industrial decay and grittiness of Steeltown Hamilton has helped to form the Barettas attitude and sound. Where to start? Katie (vocals/guitar) picks up the instrument to kill time during a lengthy high school suspension (she nobly takes the fall for ‘holding’, and keeps some friends out of trouble). Carly (drums) and Kate (bass) play in a series of local bands before completing the trio. A first gig in the basement of a local watering hole is standing room only, and the Barettas are born. Performances have followed at some of Toronto’s preeminent indie venues, including The Opera House and Lee's Palace, as well as opening slots for the Fleshtones (NYC) and Agent Orange (CA). A sonic Altamont for the electro-pop movement.
